I have some basic thoughts on the new TomTom ONE XL that I think would be useful to others who are considering whether or not to buy one. I think that I made an excellent choice for my needs when I purchased the device.

I loved the screen and I thought its brightness was perfect. Both the day and night screens are easy to see and easy to understand.

The voice was perfect for me to clearly understand the turns I needed to make.

The device was so easy to use that I could just plug in my destination and quickly go on my way. The manual wasn’t necessary, and I was able to navigate wherever I wanted to go with perfect ease.

The GPS rerouted quickly and easily when I made wrong turns. If I chose to take another direction, it didn’t get “confused.” It just rerouted in the next possible way.

TomTom’s maps seem to be on top of things and quite accurate. Even though I’ve read bad reviews concerning their maps, I haven’t had any problems

The TomTom mount included with the device could have been a little longer, but overall it worked. The unit stayed in place nicely and the suction cup held firmly, not falling off like I’ve seen other companies’ GPS holders do. I found a very suitable place on my dash that was clearly visible but doesn’t impede the visibility that I need for driving.

A really unimportant complaint of mine would be that I wish the points of interest would be sectioned in a way more like Garmin’s, but I can live without that.

The new TomTom ONE XL pushes the TomTom GPS a big step forward. With a beautiful updated monitor and a sleek 4.3-inch display, the additional enhanced options include optional RDS-TMC radio traffic information in real-time. The TomTom ONE XL is a moveable GPS navigation system with a spectacularly varied range of features. With its gentle touch responsive touch screen monitor, it makes programming for these options easy.

Like TomTom's other GPS devices, the ONE XL maintains coverage in entire the United States and in Canada in its internal memory, and with this device you have three choices of routes—the fastest, the most scenic, or the one with the fewest toll roads.

But it's not just the geographical coverage that makes the TomTom ONE XL a good choice. Its ease of use and intuitive qualities with a bright clear monitor with a multi-color display helps you easily view your current location, routes, maps and driving directions. It also tells you distance and mileage. The expanded 4.3 inch wide screen has both two and three dimensional views. With the USB port and its cable, you can use your PC to add your own personal POIs. You can also expand the memory by using an SD card slot.

You rarely have to take your eyes off the road because the ONE XL gives clear voice directions, turn-by turn in 30 languages. But if you do need to look, it sports an excellent anti-glare screen. Another neat feature is of this GPS is that it the voice volume adjusts with the speed and road noise of your car, making it good for those a little hard of hearing and pleasant for the rest of us. Once you try the ONE XL you will wonder how you ever lived without one!
